Song Maker AI is a great thing, but it lacks two important things that can currently only be solved in an XML file. Generate music for
- time and/or
- BPM
Because there are many times when I need to generate music for a given time (for example for a video, so it's not good to generate it for a new project), but I can't specify a fixed time. Or I want to create Christmas music with 75 BPM, but in a different style, so I can set the BPM afterwards, but it would be nice if I could set it before generation and it would change the parameters based on that. Really the most important thing for me would be to generate on time without modifying the XML file, so when I specify it, it doesn't read from the XML, but what I specify.

@Mykeehu

Interesting concept. That would be something like SmartSound, which I would like very much, as I do the same as you - create music for home videos. However, even SmartSound does not give exactly the duration requested, as far as I recall, close, but not spot on.

As for BPM, remember that you're working with loops that were recorded with a certain BPM. Any significant change might not sound good.

SongMaker allows you to select song parts. These are put together based on the way that songs are usually done - x bars per part, depending on the part, so x bars per Intro, Verse, Bridge, etc. I select the song parts that help me get close. Just telling the program that you want a certain length would not tell it which song parts that you want. Then, I may modify the intro and outro to get closer to the length I want. In any event, I always have to play around with the song, the loops, etc., especially endings.

In the video editor, you can adjust the speed, very slightly, to help get closer to the length that you want.

Yes, I was also wondering about SmartSound, if Magix could provide such a solution, because I used to use it in Pinnacle Studio, but I haven't found such a solution since then, maybe there was an online solution. I have Vegas Pro, but it edits music using Sound Forge, but I haven't looked into Song Maker AI. For clips, Instagram and TikTok videos, a truly AI generator would be nice.
Since Music Maker can also receive video, it would be nice to edit the two in one, since I can compose the audio tracks to a given length, maybe close to that length, but if we live in an AI world, you can even look at the beat or selections based on the dynamics and editing of the video.
I know this is very much the future, but we're moving in that direction, and not generate based on XML, but even based on time, beat, cut. Wave alignment is already going, but it's harder for an amateur like me to learn.

Mykeehu wrote on 11/7/2022, 5:38 PM

What would also be nice is to be able to read the BPM value from the metadata in the File Manager window, if available. It would be helpful to know which loops can be inserted into existing music.

@Mykeehu

Hi,

I have Vegas Pro, but it edits music using Sound Forge

No, it doesn't really do that. Vegas uses Sound Forge as an external audio editor to edit audio files from the timeline. You can create record music separately using Sound Forge, but its main purpose is as a wave editor, it is not a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). Music Maker is close to a DAW, just missing some features.

Vegas is missing the audio and music features available in Magix Movie Studio Platinum/Suite and Video Pro X. The latter come with a Soundtrack Maker wizard that is somewhat similar to what you saw in Pinnacle Studio's built-in song maker. It uses a version of Music Maker with templates but a very old version of Song Maker, tailored for the video editor. I can give it a duration ( a range) but it doesn't quite respect it, trying to use even bars (not portions of bars) to create the song. It has Mood changes and can be set to cut to the beat. It would be nice if Magix would update this to be able to use the Song Maker and Soundpools of Music Maker.

As Magix indicates in the manual, do not expect anything great from Song Maker.

That's what I need with a collaboration between Vegas and Music Maker (or Sound Forge):

@Mykeehu

Hi

Technically your question should be in the Vegas forums as you want to connect/use Music Maker/Sound Forge with a Vegas video editor.

. . . . collaboration between Vegas and Music Maker (or Sound Forge) . . . .

As you are referring to Sound Forge and Music Maker, from this aspect Sound Forge can be used as the eternal audio editor - set this in Vegas in the programs Options. Preferences, Audio tab .

Music Maker however, though it can be set as an external editor, will not work as it is not an audio editor in the same sense as Sound Forge is.

If you are wanting to create sound tracks then Music Maker must be used independantly to create the soundtrack and then exported to a suitable audio format for importing into Vegas

Dear @johnebaker

What I need is to be able to add a generated, and therefore unique, soundtrack to the video. Music Maker is able to open the video, so for post-production it would be great if I could generate music under the edited movie, for a given precision, or even for cuts.
I was thinking of Music Maker because it already has a partial AI generator, Sound Forge doesn't have one as far as I know (but I could be wrong). That's why it would be good to link the programs, all four of them. Vegas, Sound Forge, Magix Movie Maker and Magix Music Maker. I miss the ability to make music to an AI exact (movie) length.

I noticed that when I use the Song Maker AI, that if I save a project... then exit out of the program. Then load the project again... The Song Maker AI, resets itself and you can't continue where you left off. Even if you freeze the instruments, it will still regenerate new ones. And it doesn't remember the Template that you were using. It seems like you only have one "session" to use the Song Maker AI. Once you close the program, there's no way to bring that same session back. That really sucks. That should be fixed.

So... I guess my "wish" for a new feature is the ability to save these Song Maker AI sessions along with your project.

Rebuild Beatbox Pro or at least enable us to add our own sounds to beatbox plus.
I compose primarily melodic death metal, elaborate guitar instrumentals and then a variety of electronic music driven by real synths.
Magix has always been amazing with automation and it's ability to time stretch, pitch shift etc. so you can drag in virtually any outboard sound. Now that the sequencer for synths is modernized, there's no stopping me!

I'm still not a fan of using the sequencer for whichever drum VST, but the changes they made are ones I have desired for several years. It will now most certainly be my #1 DAW.

When you allready payed 100ds of euro for premium 2022 version i think its kind of stupid you have to pay another 30 euro for update to latest version . Why in the world put a payment for upgrading your allready payed software ? This is beyond reasoning in my opinion. Upgrades should be free when you allready payed such an expensive software.

SP. wrote on 4/15/2023, 3:23 AM

@Christian-Bollstrm Updates are free, just download them. Upgrades aren't free because you pay for new features.

A synth VST strictly for existing instruments.
Trumpets, pianos, bass guitars, flutes, tubas, harmonicas, and so on.
I'm sure I can find a VST whether in the Magix store or elsewhere, but I would simply give up several included VST's just for one synth VST dedicated to nothing but existing instruments.

Presonus Studio One came with my Accorn Midi Piano and it was packed with endless existing instruments. The GUI was a modern DAW electronic piano; they had emphasized it being for real instruments vs cosmic sounds. When it came time to buy Presonus, it was truly just another DAW over burdened with features whose only attracting feature was the instrument emulations(that's not quite true but nothing so amazing to dump a couple hundred on).

Anyway, I'm still super pleased with 2023. I'm chopping stuff out pretty much every single day.

SP. wrote on 4/20/2023, 5:53 PM

@Jon-Marinella If you install the plus and premium presets for the Vita synth you'll have multiple instruments in one single instrument. In the following video there is a playthrough of the instruments starting at 1:10. It's not much but better than nothing.

You can also keep an eye out on Magix Independence Pro Premium. There is usually a sale once or twice a year were you can get it for about $60-$70. With this you'll get dozens of instruments in one sampler. I wouldn't recommend it for the full price but the sale price is acceptable.

Jon-Marinella wrote on 4/20/2023, 6:37 PM

I'm installing Native Instruments with Komplete Kontrol. I haven't used Native Instruments in probably well over 10 years but back in the day, their plug-ins were the best of the best and it looks like the current most build is better than anything we'll pay for only it's actually free.

It has everything and then some but best of all, that menu system for locating instruments, effects etc. is designed intelligently rather than trying to look like a UFO.

Love Music Maker! Wouldnt want to use any other software.

1) A Record shortcut.

2) And show Volume levels when adjusting an Objects Volume.

3) And also add more Object Volume db incremental options: (+/-)1 (+/-)2 - currently its just (+/-)3 (+/-)6 (+/-)12 etc. Sometimes 3 is too much when I only need a bump up/down of 1 or 2db.

4) MultiMax option on individual Objects fx, instead of just Master fx

Hi

. . . A Record shortcut. . . .

Already there - R starts recording, Spacebar stops recording. Other keyboard shortcuts are listed in the PDF manual under Menus, however there is not a concise list of shortcuts in the manual or the in program Help.

Have you tried the MAGIX Audio Remote app, Android and iPhone versions are available in the appropriate stores.
