"Sound Forge Pro 16 crashes when trying to save a mono MP3 file"

Confirmed: Error message: "an error has occurred" "The reason could not not be determined"

I tried different sample & bitrates and mono/stereo source files in SFP-16 (both x64 and x86).
It would not overwrite an existing file either in the stereo mode.

Double-clicking a region does not work consistently. Sometimes it works if the double-click is really fast. It is not quite as bad on the x86 version but still screws up work flow.

My custom keyboard command to lock channels together (Alt+ L) causes my Win 10 PC to log-out the user. The legacy SFP and SFAS versions never exhibited this behavior. Many folks may not encounter this though, as it is not a default keyboard command.

The Direct X preset name does not appear when the plugin is used again. The  field now shows 'Untitled' instead of the last used name.

SFP 16 only saves mono MP3 at 160kbps. If I change the bitrate, the Sample Rate is 0Hz and SFP 16 crashes.

Are Sound Forge Pro 365 users entitled to the upgrade?

rraud wrote on 3/10/2022, 12:49 PM

Yes, that is an advantage of 365.

TR_Mala wrote on 3/10/2022, 1:40 PM

Yes, that is an advantage of 365.

Just making sure. I attempted to update SF Pro 15 365 from within the program and it stated that there were no updates.

Hi Rick,

Scott back with another question...There is no MP3 capability on SF 15 I downloaded to my new W11 HP. I can't open an MP3 nor can I save as an MP3.

I do own an original liscense...but there is no download available under my products. Any ideas?

By the way I did try you suggestion "reset and clear data" on opening my SF15 from the shortcut...it did not work.

Maybe it's W11...UGH!

Thanks in advance,

SF

Maybe it's W11

Maybe.. User comments state SF-15 and other latency versions work fine with Win 11, whilst some others state problems. It is usually its not the same issue though, so there is no rhyme or reason. Try the SF-16 trial for yo'self, that is 'supposed' to be Win 11 compatible.

using win 11, seems to work okay

my 2 cents

i have SFP16 working on four Win 11 machines and (fingers crossed) so far there aren't any issues...other than the known bugs.

In the 64 bit version of SFP-16, when selecting a 'New' file to record to, the new 'Layout' parameter seems to be set to "Discrete #2" by default which only records to channel 2 of a stereo file.

In the x86 (32 bit) version, selecting 'New', causes the program to crash, there are no error messages, it just closes down after a few seconds.

john_barr wrote on 3/11/2022, 1:43 PM

In SFP 16 x64, when I want to record mono, I put #1 in Channels. When I want to record stereo, I put #2 in Channels. Works well. I have not tested SFP 16 x86.

I reinstalled SFP-16 and it no longer crashes when encoding mono MP3s (???) I tried both 320 and 256 kbs in the CBR mode.

I just reinstalled Sound Forge Pro 16. In Template field, the option to save mono MP3 192kbps only. If I change the bitrate, Sound Forge stops working.

rraud wrote on 3/12/2022, 10:52 AM

Hi @john_barr Try resetting. "Reset and clear cached data" in the 'File' menu.

Bill-Fike wrote on 3/12/2022, 5:00 PM

Installed SF16. Context file menu lacks "Open with SOUND FORGE PRO 16." All other options, e.g. Convert, Normalize, etc. are there but not "Open with."

Hi. I reset and the problem continues. Does this problem only happen to me?

john_barr wrote on 3/12/2022, 6:36 PM

When I change bitrate, sample rate is 0 Hz and Sound Forge does not save. See the image:

john_barr wrote on 3/12/2022, 6:47 PM

I can save mono in the only option of the Template: 192kbps, CD Transparent Audio, Mono. If I click Custom and change bitrate, Sound Forge doesn't save.

Sound Forge Pro 16, Fraunhofer MP3 Encoder v4.1.3.

I'm on version 12 and don't see enough things I want to upgrade to 16. In particular you still cannot select equal power for crossfading samples. You can select many crossfade curves in other parts but not sample crossfade looping. I understand the developers are no longer appealing to samplists, but this is a very important. The crossfading at the moment is unusable as there is always a volume drop in the cross fade.

I use Sound Forge Pro 16 for the visually impaired. I have read that the selection of a section begins with the letter "i" and ends with the letter "o". As I start playing with a space, it seems to be very nicely selected, but copy, cut, delete, paste, and so on. in the case of, a few seconds will be selected from the beginning and end of the selected section, so not only the part I have selected, but also a few seconds more from the beginning and end. What can I do? Which setting is required for proper operation? Thank you very much in advance for your reply and help.
