Magix desychronizing audio and video on imported clips! HELP!

Kris-Roberson wrote on 10/21/2020, 1:53 PM

I recorded a video through my webcam. I then imported that video into magix movie edit pro 2020.

Then I attempt to play through the clip in the timeline editor. While watching the clip play, part way through the playback the video glitches. After the glitch, the audio continues in normal order but the video has jumped to a random spot in the clip. The audio and video are no longer sync'd and there's no way to undo the glitch. Even when I close Magix and then reopen, starting a new project, the imported video is glitched and irreparable.

This is happening on several clips from several sources.

I'm really at a loss here. This is happening on almost every imported clip. I have lost some of the original footage and have had to reshoot to get a clean clip.

Hi

. . . . I recorded a video through my webcam . . . .

What did you use to record the web cam?

If OBS then the video will need running through a video converter, eg Handbrake, to ensure that it is Constant frame rate, for future recordings see this topic - a possible solution is further down the page.

If not OBS what did you use?

What is the resolution and encoding format of the video? A MediaInfo analysis of the video clip would help, post the results from the Text view.

What is your computer specification - see this topic for details of what is required.

Hi Kris.

How old is your webcam?

Try increasing the the allowable bit rates. They look low to me and it could be dropping frames in the recording.

Also the audio. While MEP will cope with 32 kHz it's not optimal. 48kHz is the norm.

Also check your movie settings to make sure the project has similar settings to the files you use.

The Webcam is less than a year old. The top for the cam is 32khz. Sounds like time for an upgrade.

When I import the video it asks if I want to adjust for the project and I allow it to adjust.

In the meantime, any thoughts on how 8 can rescue my current recording for use this weekend?

Hi

. . . . I recorded using Zoom . . . .

This would appear to be a common issue with Zoom recordings and is caused by latency in the system when recording a meeting.

Are you using Local recording?

As @CubeAce has pointed out there are also issues with the audio - the sample rate may cause issues within MEP.

I would try running the video through a video converter (Handbrake) to fix the audio to 48kHz sample rate and also ensure that the frame rate is truly constant.

. . . . I'm still working on a good, greenscreen . . .

Do you mean a green screen to put behind you when recording, or a background image for using in MEP?

I have a low quality green screen that works for programs like Zoom, but it's not the correct chroma color green for Magix to recognize well. Once I have that, I was planning on recording through the webcam directly into MEP.

Would I be better recording in OSB and then importing or is it sufficient to record directly in MEP?

I am downloading Handbrake now. Hopefully that will let me wade through the current recording. Then I can do better next time with better cam and applications.

Thank you all for your continuing help!

CubeAce wrote on 10/22/2020, 6:20 PM

@Kris-Roberson

Hi Kris.

If you find your green screen doesn't work well with MEP using the green screen setting in the Chroma Key tool, choose Color instead and follow the instructions as it works much better than selecting the green 'Color to be hidden' setting.

As for the webcam. I'm more interested in when it was produced more than when you bought it. That resolution seems a bit dated unless you deliberately chose an SVGA setting to record.

Also you said you were using Zoom, and now you mention OBS studio. If it's OBS studio then the settings have to be altered from the default settings to work well within MEP.

Have a look at this thread for an explanation.

Ray.

I would try recording directly into MEP if you can as it is unlikely MEP would record in a format that it can not handle during editing.

I have lost some of the original footage and have had to reshoot to get a clean clip.

I can't quite understand how you have lost footage just by importing it into MEP?

@johnebaker @CubeAce

I am wondering if the large number of reference frames = 11(see Media Info) is tripping up MEP (and others). This is a newer development in AVC where it uses more than just the I frame to look back or ahead to create a better picture by averaging the information in multiple macro blocks - where the pixels are changing too quickly during fast, detailed, motion. For example when a block of pixels is momentarily obscured by some detail passing in front.

Hi Peter.

'Lost' as in unusable perhaps?

Thank you for yet another piece of the puzzle that is video data interpretation.

I did always wonder what that number represented and your explanation brings more clarity to my understanding.

I think that makes complete sense. But then how does altering the key frame interval help as it has rather than its default setting of 0 (Auto)?

It occurs to me that the 32kHz setting could also have come from the default settings within OBS as well as the picture size and bit rates.

Do check carefully that a new web cam is true 48kHz samplerate.

@CubeAce

Hi Ray

AFAICS the original video was not recorded in OBS - the codec ID is wrong and a line is missing from the MediaInfo data ie for OBS these are

- Codec ID: isom (isom/iso2/avc1/mp41)

- Writing application: Lavf58.29.100

Assuming the web cam microphone audio is via USB, then the 32kHz sample rate is set in the webcam.

Hi everyone,

Yes, I'm back.

So, I am having the same issue again.

I recorded using OBS studio and imported into magix.

Any time I make any adjustment to anything (cut video, add transitions, add objects, or even move an object from one line to another, etc.) the video desyncs from the audio. To get the video back on sync I have to save and close the project, close magix, reopen magix and the project and start the video from the beginning. The video remains synced until I stop to make an edit. Then the video goes out of sync again.

I have verified that Magix is up to date.

Really making life difficult at the moment.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I am not using a clip from the cloud. The video was recorded with OBS on the same computer I use to run MEP. The file is resident on the local drive.

Hi Kris.

Did you change your record settings in OBS as suggested or just try to redo them using Handbrake?

If the latter, then your settings may not have been correct for the conversion. The GOP structure from an OBS video that has not been converted correctly or at all is far too long and needs shortening.

Follow the link in John EB's last comment to see the OBS settings you need. Then the files should be editable without the need for converting first. Do read from John's comments to the end of page three though.

Hi Kris

For the Handbrake conversion set the the export format to MP4 (on the summary tab) and the audio and video settings to those shown below

That should fix the issues.

@johnbaker

Thanks for those settings. I have verified that those are the setting I have with on exception. Rather than the audio reading, "1 English..." it is, "1 Unknown..." That is the only option available from that pull-down menu. I attempted to use the, "Selection Behavior" options and have only English language in the selected languages. No change.

@CubeAce

I verified the settings for OBS, re-recorded a 1 min video, and imported directly to MEP. Same issues when making any alterations, the video desyncs. I also ran that same 1 min video through hand brake with the settings noted by @johnbaker. The same desync of video happens with any modifications.

As you saw in my posted video, the smallest alteration results in glitches in video sync throughout the project.

I'm willing to try whatever to get this to work. I may end up just spending on a different video editing suite if I can't make this work. Not what I want to do... learn a whole new program... but I have to get the work done.

@Kris-Roberson

Hi Kris.

Do you have the latest Intel GPU driver installed?

Currently at .Driver version 27.20.100.9126 to go with the latest Windows 10 build? (20H2 OS build 19042.602).

If so these OBS settings are working for me.

That's 4 settings pages to check that each setting is the same. If you need a different frame rate make sure all the frame rate settings are made to be all the same. I changed the Bit rate from my last post to 10000Kbps to increase the quality of the recording. Notice I only have one audio track pair active.

I do not have any problems editing with those settings. If that doesn't work for you I'm out of ideas. Sorry.

The only other difference I can see is I am not running your version of Win10. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I would not think so.

I'm assuming you have your GPU active in MEPs settings and have selected to use the direct X driver.

Ray.

Hi Kris.

I notice you are using OBS to capture a Camera rather than as a screen recorder.

I have never done that. I wonder if that has anything to do with the results?

To capture camera footage I use digiCamControl, not OBS but then I'm using a DSLR for that, not a webcam or camcorder.
