I agree with Taumaterea, and would add that the procedure described would result in a cross fade transition.  A jump cut, as I understand it, is simply going from one scene to the next with no transition.

It would be possible.  However, it becomes extremely tiresome and time-consuming to answer the same questions over and over and over again.  Creating a tutorial is much more efficient for everyone.

Yes, I agree. Effect Masks is one of the features not included in the basic versions (both MX and 2013). Looks like I've slipped into the bad habit of assuming everyone knows I have the premium versions.
